That crash and an earlier disaster involving a similar jetliner in Indonesia five months earlier has led to the world-wide grounding all 380 Boeing 737 Max.

At the Paris Air Show, Ethiopian Airlines  chief executive Tewolde Gebremariam says US congressmen blaming pilot error for the Boeing 737 Max crashes are seriously misinformed.

Boeing’s chief executive Dennis Muilenberg repeated the admission that the company had failed to communicate properly with regulators and customers about problems that Boeing would correct.

Gebremariam says the world-wide fleet of 394 Boeing 737 Max remains grounded. The facts speak for themselves.

It has a solid safety record. Nine years an Ethiopian Airliens plane crashed into the Mediterranean after taking off from Beirut with the loss of all 90 people aboard.

It is too early to offer reasons for today’a crash but it impossible not to take account of the cast that, like the Lion Air disaster that killed all 189 people aboard, it involved new aircraft from the same manufacturer.

Comair chief executive Eric Venter says the fatal Lion Air crash was caused by pilots fighting against a faulty sensor.

Standard operating procedure would have been to turn off the auto trim and fly the plane manually.

Indeed the previous crew on the same aircraft had done exactly that.

Venter says  the first  two of the Boeing 737 MAX planes is due for delivery in January and February. 

The order would take four years to complete
