]]> Algeria’s calling for a meeting of the Maghreb Arab Union that is paralyzed by Morocco’s occupation of the Western Sahara.

The call from Algiers is in response to the decision by African leaders at the extraordinary summit on November 18 for the continent’s regional groups to play a more significant role.

By summoning a meeting of Maghreb foreign ministers, Algeria is calling Morocco’s bluff. 

Hoping to avoid the meeting demanded by the United Nations with the Western Sahara leadership next month, Morocco suggested talks with Algeria.

Algeria is effectively saying Morocco has to square things by keeping it promise to hold a self-determination referendum in occupied Western Sahara.

Meanwhile the Maghreb Arab Union should take up matters important to the whole northwest African region.

]]> Morocco’s King Mohammed VI says he wants to have talks with Algeria about normalizing the relations with his North African neighbour Algeria.
He says Algeria will be allowed to set the agenda for the talks
The Moroccan King shows an odd sense of timing in his call  for a rapprochement with Algeria.
He chose the 43rd anniversary of the so-called green march when Moroccans moved into the Western Sahara that the kingdom’s illegally occupied since 1975.
That occupation is the causes belli between the countries and paralyses the Maghreb Arab Union to which they both belong.
If Algeria is allowed to set conditions it would most certainly demand Morocco keeping its promise to allow self-determination for the occupied Saharawi people….
….which has consistently been bridge too far King Mohammed.
