Democratic Republic of Congo Interior Ministry spokesman Claude Pero Luwara says the protests have been banned following yesterday’s deadly clashes that included a policeman being burned alive.

The violence was focussed outside the ruling party office in the capital.

Opposition groups however, have called for further demonstrations. They’re claiming  more than 50 people were  killed in yesterday’s clashes.

Police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of stone-throwing opposition supporters in Kinshasa, as they tried to march on parliament before a planned mass demonstration to demand that President Joseph Kabila quit power when his mandate runs out in December.
