The agreement allows the United Nations to push ahead with 17 goals from ending poverty to providing universal access to sustainable energy .

The four days of talks in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa follows similar summits on financing for development in Mexico in 2002 and Doha in 2008.

The United Nations is bent on closing the two-and-a-half trillion dollar investment gap between rich and developing countries.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon calls the success of the Addis Ababa summit a major step forward in building a world of prosperity and dignity for all.
