]]> The United States is working with Khartoum authorities to ensure that a woman sentenced to be executed for converting from Islam is allowed to leave Sudan.

After her death sentence was annulled and she was freed on Monday, Meriam Ibrahim Ishag was arrested yesterday when she tried to leave the country.

Her Muslim father abandoned the family when she was five. So Meriam Ibrahim Ishag was raised by her Christian mother.

The 27-year-old married a Catholic American Daniel Wani three years ago for which she was condemned to death by a Khartoum court in May.

An international outcry led to her being freed.

But yesterday, when she tried to leave the country with her husband and two children, she was detained.

US authorities, who’ve welcomed her release, are now working with their Sudanese counterparts to ensure she’s allowed to depart.
