]]> A lawyer for Sudanese Christian who gave birth in prison after being sentenced to hang for apostasy says she has been freed.

The woman’s chains were removed last weekend, almost a month after her sentence.

The case of Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag sparked an outcry from Western governments and rights groups.

On May 15, a judge sentenced her to hang for refusing to renounce her marriage to an American Christian.

After her sentence, she gave birth to her second child, chained to her bed.

Sudanese authorities have been mooting her freedom for more than a week although her husband Daniel Wani insists he has not been told.

Her lawyer Mohanad Mustafa says Meriam was released this afternoon.
