]]> Three Al Jazeera journalists jailed for assisting the banned Muslim Bortherhood will remain in prison after Egypt’s appeal court ordered a retrial.

The three are now trapped in the diplomatic wrangling between Egypt and Qatar which owns their television network.

The decision reached in a few minutes by the Court of Cassation in Cairo has disappointed the families of the journalists.

They’d expected Peter Greste, Mohammed Fahmy and Baher Mohammed to be freed today….

….ending a year a jail since their arrest in December 2013 and their sentencing last June.

Defence lawers are expecting a speedy retrial – reflecting a warming of relations between Egypt and Qatar which President Abdel Fattah el Sisi blames for supporting the Muslim Brotherhood that he outlawed a year ago after overthrowing its legitimately elected government in mid 2013
