The rush-hour accident once again brings into question the movement of fuel and heavy goods along Nigeria’s poorly maintained roads.

The tanker’s brakes reportedly failed as it careered into the traffic on the motorway and spilled its contents

More than 50 vehicles, including five buses, were set ablaze.

Three people died in an accident involving a heavy truck in Lagos last week.

President Muhamadu Buhari says he’s very sad to learn of the tragic loss of lives.

He calls it one of the greatest tragedies Nigeria has seen in recent times.

Government spokesman Kehinde Bernigbetan says it time to find ways of ensuring that tankers are driven by drivers with more responsibility.

More than 20 people have died in violence during Nigerian elections.

Problems with electronic card readers in a few districts has led to a second day of voting .

The deaths yesterday were caused by unknown gunmen.

The technical problems at 300 of the 150 000 polling stations affected card readers designed to prevent fraud.

The vote had been delayed by six weeks because of the insurgency by militants from the islamist group, Boko Haram.

Hours afters voting started, attacks were reported in north-eastern Gombe state, including incidents where gunmen opened fire on voters at polling stations.

The election could see the first democratic transfer of power in half a century.

The incumbent Goodluck Jonathan’s in a neck-and-neck battle with iron-fisted former military ruler Muhamadu Buhari.

On the eve of Nigeria’s closest-run presidential election, security forces say they’ve captured the headquarters of the terror group Boko Haram.

The military success will be boost to the incumbent Goodluck Jonathan who’s running against former General Muhamadu Buhari.

Nigerian military say they’re mopping up now after retaking the north eastern town of Gwoza where the Islamist militant group Boko Haram is headquartered.

They say many of the jihadis were killed in the operation.

The election was postponed for six weeks so the military could engage Boko Haram.

In that time several towns held by the terrorists have been overrun.

However the insurgents are still holding more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped in Chibok last April and hundreds of young boys they’re planning to turn into child soldiers.
