Human rights groups are calling for an international investigation into medical treatment of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Moursi who died after collapsing in court in Cairo yesterday.

Egypt’s first democratically elected president has been jailed since being deposed in 2013 by his defense minister Abdel Fatah el Sisi who is now the country’s president.

Egyptian authorities have declared a state of emergency in Mohamed Moursi’s birthplace El Adwah where he will be buried today according to Muslim practice.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatar’sEmir Sheikh Tamin Bin Hammad Al Thani have both referred to Moursi as a martyr.

Members of the now outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, that he led to victory in 2012 elections, describe his death a murder, saying he was denied medical treatment in prison for diabetes and high blood pressure.

Gunmen have killed four Catholics celebrating mass in northern Burkina Faso.

This brings to 19 the number of Christians gunned down in this religiously diverse country this past month.

Two people were wounded along with the four killed while celebrating mass yesterday.

As with the previous attacks, no-one has claimed responsibility .

Authorities suspect Mali-based Islamist militants moving across the border to attack churches in this country where 60% of the 20-million population are Muslims.

Catholic Bishop Justin Kientega says Christians reject the growing spiral of violence in Burkina Faso.

Four Catholics were killed in church the previous Sunday.

A priest and five parishioners were killed earlier in May.

Last month six Protestants were killed during a religious service.

The fragile peace in the Central African Republic is unravelling.

Less than a month after it was signed, one of the 14 parties has quit the government central to the deal and another militia has abandoned it.

The peace brokered in Khartoum and inked in Bangui on February 6 was the culmination of eight failed attempts following the 2013 overthrow of President Francois Bozize by the mainly Muslim Seleka rebels.

It obliged President Faustin Archange Touadera to form an inclusive government.

Parties and militia excluded from his administration are urging him to look again at its composition.

They’re insisting on Touadera appointing a prime minister from among their ranks rather than pick a ruling party loyalist.

ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda says warlord-turned MP Alfred Yekatom must answer for his crimes against humanity in the Central African Republic.

No date has been set for the hearing in The Hague of the man who was known as Rambo.

Alfred Yekatom led a Christian militia called the Anti Balka against the Muslim Seleka rebels who overthrew President Francois Bozize in 2013.

The rebels killed 20 South African soldiers acting as advisors to the Central African Republic President.

Yekatom gained notoriety as an MP when he fired a shot into the parliament in Bangui.

He’s facing charges of murder, deportation, persecution, torture and attacking civilians – all aimed at Muslims.

He’s also charged with recruiting child soldiers under 15-years-old
