Ethiopians, like Jews and Muslims, are celebrating New Year today.

With more than a million people uprooted by ethnic violence, Ethiopians are hoping their celebrations will mark a better future for Africa’s second most populous country.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his Eritrean counterpart Isias Afwerki are visiting  troops on the border marking the normalization of relations between the neighboring countries.

They’ve gone to Bure which saw some of the bitterest fighting in their two year war that ended in the year 2000 leaving more than 80 000 people dead.

Ethnic wars within Ethiopia are still taking a murderous toll.

New leader Ahmed must taken credit for making peace with Eritrea, but he has his work cut out ending the internal conflict with his own people the Oromia.

An Egyptian student in California faces possible deportation from the United States for allegedly posting on Facebook that he would be doing the world a favour if he killed Donald Trump.

The student pilot is being held in an Orange County jail pending a hearing on his deportation today.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency won’t give further details about Emed Elsayed.

Following Donald Trump calling for the banning of all Muslims from the United States, the Egyptian student posted that he would not mind being sentenced to life imprisonment for killing the Republican presidential hopeful and that if he did so he would be doing the world a favour.

US Secret Service Agents  turned up at the Southern California flight academy where Elsayed has been training to become a pilot after the owner reported the Facebook comment to federal authorities.

Islamist terrorists say they killed Christian students in north east Kenya because they were engaged in missionary work.

The gunman killed at least 16 students at Garissa university after separating and freeing their Muslim counterparts.

More than 500 students remain unaccounted for.

Al Shabab terrorists from Somalia have launched cross border raids into Kenya to avenge that country supporting the government in Mogadishu.

However it’s clear from the jihadis remarks today that they regard parts of Kenya to be under Muslim control.

President Uhuru Kenyatta reacted with fury.

He says recruitment of 10 000 new police officers will be speeded up after today’s attack on the university campus.

He urged fellow Kenyans to remain calm but gave no indication how his security forces are dealing with the situation still playing out in Garissa.
