Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana say their supporters have been intimidated.

Kagame’s adored by those who credit him with the stability and economic advancement in the Great Lakes country.

His opponents, however, say he’s closed the political space and resorted to repression and violence to suppress his opponents.

Kagame referred to the vote as a mere formality.

A 2015 referendum victory gives him authority to stay in power until 2034.
