An oil field guard in Libya’s died of a heart attack as he watched Islamic State militants behead eight of his colleagues.

The jihadis kidnapped nine foreign oil workers in the attack 700 km southeast of the capital Tripoli.

The attack on the Al Ghani field is in pursuit of Islamic State’s goal of taking over the Libyan oil industry.

Philippines and Austrian authorities confirm their nationals are among the nine abducted from the oil field – along with Czech, Bangladeshi and Ghanaian nationals.

The attacks in recent weeks have forced Libya to declare 11 fields non-operational, including al-Ghani, and invoke a force majeure clause that exempts the state from contractual obligations.

During the attack on al-Ghani, an employee watched the beheadings of the eight oil guards and subsequently died of a heart attack.

A visiting Swiss minister says his country doesn’t deserve its reputation for being a bolt hole for ill-gotten gains.

Yves Rossier says Switzerland today leads the field in repatriating money illegally stashed there by corrupt rulers.

Speaking after meeting his South African counterpart Luwellyn Landers, Swiss State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yves Rossier admits he’s fighting an uphill public relations battle.

He says in its dealings with Tunisia and Angola Switzerland’s shown its ahead of the game in repatriating dirty money.

Indeed its pulling European partners in the same direction.

The problem in repatriating stolen funds is often difficulties with the legal systems in the countries trying to recoup them.

Switzerland’s played a leading role in building tough enabling capacity in Egypt and the Philippines to help them achieve this.
