There are questions about who is behind the kidnapping of pupils and staff at a boarding school in northwestern Cameroon.

The government in Yaounde is blaming Anglophone separatists.

The separatists, however, say the government is behind the abduction trying to discredit their cause.

The kidnappers of 79 pupils, the headmaster, a teacher and driver from the Presbyterian boarding school in Bamenda call themselves the Amba Boys.

Ambazonia is the name of the independent state that English-speaking Cameroonian separatists want to establish in the northwest and southwest of the country.

Film footage released of the abduction shows the leader speaking French.

Who ever is behind it, the anxious parents are urging the authorities to find their children and return them safely.

Kidnappers have free 79 schoolchildren they seized from boarding school in Cameroon early on Monday.

They’re still holding the headmaster, a teacher and  driver abducted from the Presbyterian school on the north western capital Bamenda.

It’s not clear how the hostages were freed.

A priest was involved in negotiations with the captors to secure the release of the children aged between 10 and 14 years.

Anglophone separatists and the Cameroon government have accused each other of the kidnapping.

A video of the hostages, showing a french-speaking abductor, is creating controversy in Cameroon.

Government says the kidnappers are separatists fighting to gain independence for the Anglophone areas of Cameroon.

The separatists say the children were grabbed on government orders to undermine the separatist cause.

Paul Biya’s inauguration today for a seventh term as Cameroon’s president is eclipsed by the search for 79 school pupils kidnapped by English-speaking separatists.

The schools headmaster, teacher and and a driver were taken along with the children.

The army is scouring the north west of Cameroon as anxious parents wait for news of their children.

A group calling themselves the Amba Boys, who broke into the Presbyterian school in the regional capital Bamenda to perform their kidnapping, say they’ll hold their hostages until the Anglophone areas of Cameroon are allowed to form an independent state called Ambazonia.

The Anglophone separatists maintain they are being marginalized and dominated by the Francophone majority.

Their battle for independence has become increasingly militant these past two years.

English-speaking separatists have kidnapped 80 people from a school in restive northwest Cameroon.

The abduction comes on the eve of President Paul Biya being sworn into office for a seven term.

The kidnappers says they’ll hold their hostages until the Anglophone areas of Cameroon are allowed to split and form an independent  state  called Ambazonia.

They’re mostly pupils but the school’s headmaster has also been taken

The kidnappers  call themselves the Amba boys and they’ve  released a video of their victims taken from a Presbyterian school near the district capital Bamenda.
