Scientists seeking a cure for the EBOLA virus have made a major breakthrough in treating the year-long outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Two drugs have shown the deadly hemorrhagic disease is curable.

Four drugs have undergone clinical trials in the DRC where more than 1800 people have died in the latest EBOLA outbreak.

Trials on two of them REGN-EB3 and mAB114 have been stopped and doctors are prioritising their use, after they were shown to be 90 percent effective on hundreds of patients.

World Health Organization specialists explain that the drugs attach anti-bodies to the outside of the EBOLA virus, destroying it.

The successful trial moves EBOLA into the category of preventable and treatable diseases.
