]]> This mornings  heavy downpour in Liberia had slowed voting in the country’s first democratic contest in living memory.

More than two million of Liberia’s four-and-half million population are registered to elect a successor to Africa’s first elected woman president.

No fewer than 20 candidates are vying to success Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who’s made a resounding success of a 12- year presidency after the country was torn apart by civil war.

These includeformer footballer Senator George Weah, Vice President Joseph Boakai, former rebel leader Prince Johnson, serial candidate Brumskine Charles and the only woman in the race, former model Macdella Cooper.

There are 986 aspirants for the 73 seats in the House of representatives. They will know their fate at the close of polls at 1800 GMT.
