Denmark’s apologized to Ghana for its part in the African slave trade more than two hundred years ago.

Foreign Minister Anders Samuelson calls is a sinful and unforgettable able part of human history that cannot be justified.

Combatting human trafficking today is on the agenda items for Danish Queen Magarethe’s visit now underway in Ghana.

The country, then known as the Gold Coast, became a Danish Crown Colony in 1750.

That was at the height of the African slave trade to Europe and the United States.

Denmark now accepts that before selling the Gold Coast to Britain in 1814,  100 000 slaves from that country, about two percent of the total human trade, were  sold in Europe and the Danish West Indies.
