The Pan African Parliament expresses sadness and dismay at the attacks against foreigners in South Africa.

A statement signed by PAP President Roger Dang says condemns this in the strongest arms and says it  threatens to reverse all the recent gains made by Africa.

The Midrand-based continental legislature is confident South African authorities will guarantee the security of parliamentarians at their session next month.

It urges African leaders to reflect on real problems facing their ordinary citizens that could spiral into uncontrollable revolt.

The PAP statement says the violence and tension being experienced in South Africa is spreading into other parts of the continent leading to the displacement of helpless people and causing damage and loss of property and sources of livelihood and eventually loss of lives.

Pan African Parliament President Roger Dang says continental MPs must once again be involved in election observation as member of the Midland-Based body.

The Cameroonian , who’s been elected for a second-three-year-tem at the head of the 255-member body says MPs have a more acute perspective on elections than members off national executives.

When PAP observers criticized elections in Zimbabwe, it spelled the end for such missions from the continental legislature.

The PAP members continue observing African elections but as members of AU delegations.

As such, says PAP president Roger Dang, they do not write the final reports.

It’s time they resumed this more direct role.

“We can go back to the situation and then it will be better for us to have some input into democracy in Africa,” he says

Dang says the PAP still needs eighteen ratifications before the body can be given legislative power.
