]]> The United States is preparing to withdraw nearly all of its troops fighting the Ebola outbreak that’s killed 9 000 people in West Africa.

The White House announcement comes as the global health crisis recedes amid a sharp decline in Ebola cases.

More than half of the 2 800 US troops deployed in West Africa have already gone home.

President Barak Obama’s expected to announce 100 will remain in the Ebola-hit countries after April 30.

They’ll work with Liberia’s military, regional partners and US civilians fighting the worst outbreak the world has seen.

US Agency for International Development Administrator Rajiv Shah says their 10-month operation’s delivered extraordinary results.

Ebola cases are down 80 per cent.

In Liberia, new cases have dwindled to just one or two per day.

Ron Klain, who led Obama’s Ebola response, is wrapping up his work.
