Africa’s become the international investment flavour of the month, says Nigerian academic Cyril Obi.
However Pretoria-based Obi says sound Nigeria-South Africa relations are key to Africa really finding its voice.
ends intro
Cyril Obi, who heads the African Peacebuilding Network programme at the University of Pretoria, says relations between Nigeria and South Africa were strong when Presidents Thabo Mbeki and Olusegun Obassanjo were at the helm.
He says it’s time to end the rivalry that has grown to  characterise ties between the two continental giants.
Obi proposes the formation of a Nigeria South Africa organisation and says this NISA   could  be Africa’s version of BRICS leading efforts to mainstream the continent and fighting for it at international economic fora.

Minister of Public Service and Administration Collins Chabane’s calls for the media to join with government and civil society in making the African Peer Review Mechanism work.

Chabane says, bolsered by a robust constitution, South Africa’s media must be self conscious, transparent, ethical and self critical.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the South African Institute for International Affairs on the African Peer Review Mechanism, Minister of Public Service and Administration Collins Chabane quotes liberally from Australian journalist John Pilger….

That it’s not enough for journalists to see themselves as mere messengers without understanding the hidden agendas of the message and the myths that surround it.

Chabane says the media must recognise that they themselves are a product of the social, cultural, and historic evolution of their societies.

Chabane says the media shouldn’t mimic dominant narratives and stereotypes about Africa
