The death of Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi won’t stop  so-called Islamic State’s operations in Africa.

Analysts fear that,  like Al Shabaab, the terror group will use relatively soft targets in Africa to show it is still operational.

So-called Islamic State has made its deadly presence felt in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Northern Mozambique, Mali and Burkina Faso.

The news portal Defence Web says this should of concern to South Africa’s National Defence Force which might be called in to protect neighbors from the Southern African Development Community.

The ISIS fighters have not been flown in to African locations. They have come in smaller numbers escaping fighting in Syria and Iraq, bringing with them experience, skills, techniques and tactics.

Sudanese troops reportedly surrounded South African peacekeepers in Darfur while a court was considering an urgent application in Pretoria to seize President Omar al Bashir and turn him over to the International Criminal Court that wants to try him for genocide in the conflict-ravaged Western province.
The Sudanese troops withdrew when Bashir, who dodged a court order that he be prevented from leaving South Africa, was on a flight home to Khartoum.
ends intro

Pretoria’s judge president Dunstan Mlambo says President Omar Al Bashir defiance of the court order is unconstitutional.
He’s given the State seven days to provide an affidavit explaining when, where and how Bashir got away.
The Southern African Litigation Centre, that brought the urgent action seeking Bashir’s detention, plans to initiate a private prosecution against the South African government for contempt of court.
Pikkie Greef, the general secretary of the South African National Defence Union says government must respond decisively to Sudan blackmailing South African troops in Darfur by threatening an act of war if their president was arrested in Johannesburg.
At Sudan’s insistence, the South African contingent is the most lightly armed in the United Nations/ African Union Mission in Darfur known as UNAMID.
Military analysts say South Africa should pull their peacekeepers out of Darfur – although this would be playing into Bashir’s hands

The SANDF must go in to Mozambique and take out rhino poachers stealing South Africa’s family silver, says cross-border lawyer Chris Bean.

He says he doesn’t want these middle men killed. He wants them jailed and giving information about the organised crime bosses they are working for.

Chris Bean makes a living collecting debts in Africa.

But in Boksburg today he’s representing a client who’s never paid him and never will: the rhino.

He was giving evidence to a specialist committee set up by the Department of Environmental Affairs to recommend the line South Africa should take on legalising the sale of rhino horn at the Conference on the International Trade in Endangered Species it’s hosting in Cape Town next year.

Bean maintains the international law governing hot pursuit entitles South Africa to chase poachers into Mozambique and to recover them to face justice here.
