A top US public health official says the Ebola outbreak in West Africa is going to get worse before it gets better.

He was speaking as health ministers from the region prepare to meet in Ghana to discuss the crisis that’s killed nearly 1 500 people and is hamstringing economies.

Director of the Centre for Disease Control Tom Frieden says an unprecedented response is needed to bring the Ebola outbreak under control.

The World Health Organisation estimates more than 2600 have been infected in the largest ever Ebola epidemic.

Hardest hit has been Liberia with 624 deaths this year.

Frieden’s met Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to discuss ways to fight the disease.

He says the world’s never seen an outbreak of Ebola like this. There are many more cases than has been diagnosed and reported.

A Spanish priest infected with Ebola virus has arrived in Madrid for treatment.

Spanish authorities have taken the deadly disease very seriously, imposing the strictest security measures on the hospital treating the priest.

Father Miguel Pajares, who’s 75 has been working as a missionary in Liberia.

He tested positive for Ebola at a hospital in Liberia.

A Spanish nun is also being repatriated.

She’s been exposed to the virus but has not tested positive.

Liberia, like Sierra Leone, has declared a state of emergency as the number of Ebola deaths in four West Africa countries climbs to 950.

Anxious families have prevented some doctors in Liberia from getting access to patients.

The emergency declared by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will stop this and restrict Ebola victims to prevent further spreading of the disease.

Seychelles has forfeited an African Cup qualifying game rather than play Sierra Leone which at the centre of an Ebola virus outbreak that’s killed 727 peple..

In Nairobi, the Sierra Leon team’s been barred from entering a plane bound for the Indian Ocean island.

The Confederation of African Football confirmed Seychelles withdrawal in a statement without giving a reason.

Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma’s declared a state of emergency and ordered the military to enforce the quarantine of parts of his country….

….as has Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who has also barred football matches and practices to avoid the human contact spreading the deadly haemorraghic disease that started in Guinea in February.

Both Koroma and Sirleaf have scrapped plans to travel to Washington for next week’s US Africa summit.
