President Jacob Zuma’s reportedly turned down a request by the integrity commission of the ruling African National Congress to resign.

He told the body he is the only person who can stop Western government from capturing the party and eventually the country.

Besieged by corruption allegations, Zuma’s facing a parliamentary no-confidence motion in a month’s time.

The ANC integrity commission decision against President Jacob Zuma is reported in the Johannesburg -based City Press newspaper.

The commission’s findings are addressed to ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe.

They’re dated one week before the last national executive committee of the ruling party held in May, where Zuma survived yet another motion of no-confidence tabled against him.

The findings were  compiled by integrity commission chairman Andrew Mlangeni following meetings held between the commission  and Zuma in December and April.

Zuma told that body he had knowledge of alleged plots to get rid of him.

The commission dismisses Zuma’s claim. It does not accept the notion that opposition to the president can be attributed solely to a Western conspiracy.

It says Zuma’s  explanation ignores the very real problems in the ANC, as evidenced by the rapid decline in support for the party.

The 12-member commission set up more than four years ago had declared it is deeply perturbed at Zums actions and has twice before called on him to resign.

After what the general secretary of the ruling African National Congress called a robust and difficult debate earlier this week, South African President Jacob Zuma has kept his job.

Gwede Mantashe insisted there wasn’t any no confidence debate and the decision of the ANC’s National Executive Committee was taken on consensus.

No fewer than four members of his Cabinet called for President Jacob Zuma, decimated by a series of corruption allegations against him, to stand down.

The consensus in the National Executive Committee, which has never voted on an issue, went in Zuma’s favour.

ANC General Secretary Gwede Mantashe says there will be no vengeance  sought against them within the NEC.

What they say and do in Cabinet could, however, determine their political futures.

The plot to unseat Zuma came as a complete surprise to some senior members who raced to the NEC meeting that was extended into a fourth day on Monday.

It was far and away the most serious threat Zuma has faced since coming to power in 2009.

Months earlier, the party that has been in power since the end of apartheid in 1994 “recalled” President Thabo Mbeki for marginalising  the leadership.

Zuma retains the presidency despite having been  found by the Constitutional Court to have disregarded his constitutional obligation as chief executive.

He has taken decisions that have cost South Africans billions of rands and led the party to sharp political setbacks in local elections earlier this year.

President Jacob Zuma has apologised to the South African public for the confusion and frustration caused by the drawn out controversy over public funds being used to upgrade his private home.

The leadership of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress has commended Zuma humbling himself to the people and unanimously backed his continued leadership of the party and country.

President Jacob Zuma’s used an extraordinary address to the nation to defended himself after a seismic court judgment slamming his initial rebuff  to the Public Protector ordering him to repay public funds used

for non-security improvements to his private residence.

In what what was widely speculated to be his resignation speech, Zuma  admitted his conduct was inconsistent

with the constitution.

Mantashe says the party will no tear itself apart by bowing to the chorus of calls for Zuma to step down.

Leading these is opposition Democratic Alliance, whose leader Mmusi Maimani says Zuma’s deliberately trying to mislead the public.

Political analysts say the municipal elections due next month will be a good indicator of whether Zuma has become a liability for the ANC and whether he will survive until the party’s  elective conference at the end of next year.
