Oil-rich Equatorial Guinea has give $2 million to China to help fight the coronaviras outbreak.

Death toll from the flu-like ailment has topped 600 and 31 000 people have been sickened – mostly in China.

It is not sure how China will spend the $2-million given by Equatorial Guinea.

The World Health Organisation says China is running out of surgical masks and protective equipment used to prevent the virus spreading.

President Teodoro Obiang Nguema says the donation from Equatorial Guinea reflects the  deep and longstanding bilateral relationship.

China has always shown  the deepest support and solidarity to Equatorial Guinea.

There has been no confirmed coronavirus infection in subSaharan Africa but many countries have taken preventative measures.

Supercars seized from the son of Equatorial Guinea’s President Teodoro Obiang Nguema fetched more than $25 million when they went under the hammer in Geneva yesterday.

Most of that will go back to funding special projects in the oil-rich African state.

Swiss charges against Toedorin Obiang Nguema were dropped in 2017. But the Bern authorities keep the goods they seized – including the cars and a 76-metre luxury yacht.

The most valuable  car was a 2014 Lamborgini Veneno roadster, one of only nine made to celebrate the manufacturer’s 50th anniversary. It sold for $8,5 million – service manual and tools included.

The president’s son, worth $600 million  was sentenced by a Paris court to three years in jail for siphoning off funds from Equatorial Guine to buy luxury goods.

Defeated Gambian leader Yayha Jammeh’s exile on Equatorial Guinea may not be as pleasurable – or as secure – as it first appeared.

His host, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema says he’s consider any extradition request for Jammeh from the Gambia.

At least twice last year, Gambia’s new President Adama Barrow said he’s considering asking Equatorial Guinea to send Yahya Jammeh home to face charges of human rights abuses and crimes against the state.

The fact that President Teodoro Obiang Nguema has not ruled it out completely is seen as threatening to Jammeh.

He left Gambia a year ago after losing elections and then being forced out by pressure from the country’s neighbors.

Jammeh is reportedly deeply isolated and restricted in Equatorial Guinea where he’s farming cacao and plantains.

Equatorial Guinea’s vice president’s gone on trial in Paris for corruption.

Teodorin Obiang, who’s the son of his country’s president is accused of plundering $115m.

Teodorin Obiang owns luxury properties, yachts, cars – and Michael Jackson’s crystal glove

He’s luxuriated in spectacular mansions in Malibu and Paris, traveled in expensive sports cars, yachts and a private jet, amassed a multi-million-dollar art collection and once went on a reported $80 000 shopping spree at Gucci.

Increasingly, justice seems to be catching up to the, 47-year-old son jet setter not in his impoverished homeland, but in the western nations where he flaunts his allegedly ill-gotten gains.

Obiang’s not expected to be present and he reportedly will plead not guilty to charges of corruption, money laundering and embezzlement of public funds.

The trial is groundbreaking in France, a favorite haunt for African leaders with questionable fortunes.

Burkina Faso’s political parties and civil society groups worked through the weekend to adopt a transition plan for the west African country after the ousting of veteran president Blaise Compaore.

African sensitivity about Campoare’s fall after 27 years is illustrated by the media in Equatorial Guinea being banned from reporting it by president Teodoro Obiang Nguema who’s been in power for 37 years.

At first the army refused to participate in transition talks in Ouagadougou.

In neighbouring Ivory Coast, where he fled after resigning as president, Blaise Campaora broke his silence accusing military and political opponents of jointly plotting his overthrow.

Opposition leader Zephirin Diabre expects a final version of the transitional agreement to be handed to the military authorities.

There will then be delicate talks to arrive at an agreed plan.
