More than 20 people – most of them Frelimo supporters – have died in crashes.

The latest fatality is a child who ran out of the schoolyard in the Gaza village of Macia to pick up political pamphlets thrown nearby. The 10-year-old was killed while returning to the premises.

27 people were injured when a truck that was carrying people from a rally addressed  by President Felipe Nyusi in Gaza overturned.

The most serious accident occurred last  month when seven people died in an overturned truck in Tete province.

All parties have been accused of crowding people into open lorries to transport huge numbers of people to rallies

Filipe Nyusi says tragedy has once again knocked on the door, referring to the deaths of 50 people in Tete province last year from drinking contaminated beer.

Government’s now saying the explosion occurred after driver of the Malawi-bound truck, stopped to sell fuel to locals.

They’re saying at least 56 people died, having yesterday put the death toll at 73.

This could relate to the number of bodies actually recovered.

Coffins have been provided for the identified victims.

Those burned beyond recognition have been buried in a mass grave.
