Renegade Lesotho general Tlali Kamoli, who made an abortive power-grab at the end of August , has quit the mountain kingdom with his pension.

Two other senior officers from the military and police have also gone into exile in various African countries.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa welcomes the officers’departure to Uganda, Sudan and Algeria

The SADC-mandated facilitator for Lesotho says it’s in line with the decision taken by regional heads of state meeting in Pretoria following the failed coup that sent Prime Minister TomThabane briefly into exile in South Africa.

Ramaphosa calls this an important confidence building measure on the road to returning Lesotho to security and stability.

He says it will add to the creation of a climate conducive for elections due in the kingdom in three months.

Ramaphosa will be back in Lesotho next week talking to political players about that poll.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa’s not commenting on Lesotho’s demand for the expulsion of
two senior South African policemen guarding prime minister Tom Thabane.

Ramaphosa’s visiting the mountain kingdom in his role as regional facilitator following the August coup attempt that sent Thabane briefly into exile in South Africa.

Lesotho authorities haven’t named the South African police officer whom they accuse of sabotaging premier Tom Thabane’s security.

They have not supplied detail to motivate their suspicions.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, through his spokesman, and the head of the SADC mission in Lesotho are not commenting on the call by Thabane’s disparate coalition government.

South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe have supplied police to protect the prime minister after the attempted coup.

The officer responsible for this Lt. Genl Tlali Kamoli has not honoured a promise to turn himself in and quit the kingdom.

Lesotho police are probing claims that foreign mercenaries are plan to kill Prime Minister Tom Thabane.

It’s alleged a dozen Nigerian and Ghanaian hired guns have slipped into the mountain kingdom through its porous border with South Africa.

Senior Lesotho officials say they’re investigating efforts to further destabilise their country shaken by an abortive coup attempt at the end of August.

Police say King Letsie III and Prime Minister Tom Thabane have cancelled public engagements.

Several government offices have been evacuated.

The alleged mercenaries have reportedly accessed a stash of weapons waiting for them in Lesotho.

Renegade General Tlali Kamoli who’s taken to the mountains with some special forces members, has until Saturday to leave the country to earn the pension negotiated by special regional facilitator Cyril Ramaphosa.

A top Lesotho defence official alleges a general who masterminded an abortive coup in the mountain kingdom at the end of August continues to sabotage efforts to restore peace and stability.

He’s saying the region must take steps to remove Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli.

The defence ministry’s principal secretary Thato Mohasoa accuses Lieutenant General Tlali
Kamoli of harassing rivals and marshalling forces, despite his promise to
relinquish his command.
Mohasoa’s written to Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, who’s the regional facilitator in Lesotho.

He says SADC must use all means at their disposal to get rid of Kamoli who’s followers have assaulted a military commander.

He maintains the renegade general’s claiming he’s still substantive commander of the Lesotho Defence Force and is holding meetings with soldiers about use of resources.

Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa appeared to have brokered the end to the mutiny of a renegade general who’s blamed for an abortinve coup attempt in Lesotho at the end of August.

Prime Minister Thomas Thabane maintained the standoff with Tlali Kamoli, who’s protected by a few loyal special forces members, made it too dangerous to recall parliament.

For some time now, it has been about the money.

Officials at a regional summit on Lesotho in Pretoria last month were saying General Tlali Kamoli would stand down in exchange for two years salary and a diplomatic posting.

In the end, SADC special facilitator Cyril Ramaphosa has negotiated a pension and a partial amnesty from prosecution for the general.

This could leave him facing charges of murder for the policeman killed during the August 30 coup but not being tried for high treason.

South Africa’s Deputy President has completed another round of facilitating Lesotho’s security and constitutional logjam announcing that the mountain kingdom will go to the polls next February.
After an attempted coup at the end of August, Cyril Ramaphosa was mandated by the Southern African Development Community to find a way of ending the crisis.
Ends intro
During Cyril Ramaphosa’s third visit to Lesotho this week, soldiers and policemen, who have been at loggerheads since the putsch bid, exchanged gunfire in the capital Maseru.
Ramaphosa  returned home yesterday (Thursday) and announced that Lesotho’s King Letsie III will set the exact date for the elections, which will be a year early.
The agreement brokered by Ramaphosa will see parliament reconvene on October 17 to pass a budget and set the scene for elections.
Thabane fled South Africa in early September after General Tlali Kamoli, whom he’d sacked as military commander, attempted a coup.
Kamoli raided the government armory and fled into the mountains with a few crack troops still loyal to him.
He’s indicated to facilitators that he will end his mutiny for the payment of two year’s salary and diplomatic posting.
Ramaphosa says  police officers and military advisors from the Southern
African bloc will remain in the country until after the vote.
