]]> Singapore authorities have made their largest ivory seizure.

Tusks from 300 elephants in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been stopped on their way to Vietnam.

The shipment also contained 12 tonnes of pangolin scales.

The Singapore authorities were acting on a tip-off from their Chinese counterparts.

The ivory seized is worth $48 million.

Singapore is a regular shipment point for African animal parts destined for other Asian countries.

The market there is stimulated by the legal sale of ivory.

Traffickers risk a fine of 500 000 Singapore dollars or two years in jail.

Nearly 40 tonnes of pangolin scales, used in Chinese traditional medicine, have been seized in Singapore  since April this year.  The pangolin is the most trafficked mammal on the planet.
