The says they won’t recommit resources to the exercise and the ball is in the East African nations’ court to relaunch an agreement that’s been torn apart by repeated breakdowns.

Some of the donor nations have gone so far as to label  the two-year-old deal as obsolete.

It collapsed when vice president turned rebel leader Riek Machar fled the country when fighting broke out in the capital.

He came to South Africa for medical treatment and has not been permitted to return to South Sudan or its neighbours.

President Salva Kiir maintains he can strike a deal with Machar’s replacement.

However the European Union, United Stsates, Britain and Norway say they’re not prepared to bankroll this process.
