The 93-year-old was admitted to the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka the  his minders said he appeared weak.

Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya says Kenneth  Kaunda has recovered fully, prompting the hospital to discharge him.

He says Kaunda is stable and that a team of specialist doctors will continue monitoring his condition.

He says authorities are confident that Kaunda has recuperated and will continue with his normal activities while his medical team carries out routine checkups on him.

Zambian authorities were irked by social media reports that Kaunda had died.

Emmanuel Mwamba denies reports on social media that Kaunda has died.

Zambia chief envoy to Pretoria, Emmanuel Mwamba says former President Kenneth Kaunda was admitted to the university teaching hospital in Lusaka  to be treated for a minor ailment.

Mwamba says Kaunda  is stable enough and is likely to be discharged soon

The High Commissioner’s statement says doctors have also used this opportunity to carry out a comprehensive routine medical check-up on Kaunda.

He says Kaunda was brought to hospital when his minders reported that the former President appeared weak.

This  prompted the Minister of Health to deploy a specialist medical unit to check on him at his residence, who eventually brought him to hospital to check on him
