The World Health Organization has identified a second wave of the Ebola outbreak that’s killed at least 135 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The UN body’s meeting in Geneva tomorrow to determine whether the outbreak constitutes an international emergency.

Community resistance and local violence in the North Kivus are blamed for the inability of health authorities to check the spread of Ebola.

It epicenter has moved 20kms from the Mangina to Beni on the shores of Lake Kivu – hard  up against the Uganda border.

A member of the UN peacekeeping force MONUSCO is among the latest victims.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has pulled their workers back from the worst impacted area for safety reasons

The Ebola virus may have been contained in Nigeria and Senegal, two countries peripherally hit by the deadly haemorrhagic disease that’s raged through West Africa.

US health authorities say, no new cases have been reported in these two countries for almost a month.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the Ebola outbreak could be declared over in Nigeria next month.

People continue to be infected in other parts of West Africa, in particular Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

Liberia has suffered most of the death toll said by the World Health Organisation to have exceeded 3 000.

The current Ebola outbreak is the most deadly in history.

There were 20 confirmed cases in Nigeria and Senegal.

Eight people have died of it in Nigeria.
