At least five people have died in post-election violence in Kenya.

The country’s electoral commission warns that opposition claims of victory in Tuesday’s poll could be illegal.

Official results are expected today.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s claim that Kenya’s experiencing the worst electoral fraud in its history has spurred violence in slum areas of Nairobi and other cities.

The death toll this morning is at least five with authorities desperate to avoid the deadly aftermath of elections that left 1 500 dead a decade ago.

Independent Electoral Commission head Wafulu Chebukati says Odinga’s victory claim ahead of the official result announcement could be illegal.

The commission’s website puts President Uhuru Kenyatta 10 points ahead of Odinga with 54,4 percent of the votes after 94 percent of the ballots have been counted.
