]]> A Kenyan police officer’s been wounded in a fierce gun battle with militant Islamists in north-eastern Garissa County.

A police spokesman’s discounted claims by Al Shabab that at least 20 policemen were killed in the attack.

The al-Shabab militants set an ambush for the police near Yumbis town in Garissa County.

A police spokesman’s dismissed as propaganda al-Shabab’s claim that at least 20 policemen were killed in the attack.

Last month the terror group carried out a siege on Garissa University College and 148 people were killed.

Last week, they briefly seized control of Yumbis, about 100km east of Garissa town, and warned residents not to work with the government.

The Somali-based militants are firmly establishing itself in Garissa County, despite government efforts to defeat them.
