South Africa’s hard left opposition party the Economic Freedom fighters urges Zimbabwe’s new President Emmerson Mnangagwa not to return land seized from white people.
The party says they best policy under Robert Mugabe’s 37 year was taking land back to give to black Zimbabweans
Deputy President of the Economic Freedom Fighters Floyd Shivambu was responding to Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa promising in his inauguration speech on Friday to compensate white farmers who lost their property during Robert Mugabe’s notorious land reform programme.
It drove Zimbabwe from being the regional breadbasket into a continental basket case.
Shivambu says Mnangagwa and his ruling Zanu-PF must not give the land back to white people and that the indigenous Zimbabweans should continue to own the land.
He says Zimbabwe should produce its own food and feed its own people from land owned by Africans.
Shivambu declares the struggle being waged by the EFF in South Africa is to reclaim the land.
The party would not want regress in terms of the land.
Mnangagawa must stabilize Zimbabwe, its economy and regain the currency but he must never sell out on the land.
Shivambu says one of the most progressive things to happen in Zimbabwe was taking the land from the colonial settlers.
The EFF believes Mnangagwa must never return the land to the settlers because it does not belong to them.
